She and her
husband, Dick, who bred and showed under the kennel name Scandik,
now enjoy the camaraderie of Dane people and having their booth
at Mid-West Great Dane Specialties and at the National
Specialty.
She got her first
Great Dane, a pet, in 1981 and began showing in the early
1990s. The Scandik kennel has produced four champions, with the
most recent being Ch. Dane Lane Dick’s Lament Lost Creek v
Scandik, who finished on the Florida circuit.
Susan majored in
art at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where
she studied various areas of art and learned to work in
different mediums.

She began
developing Dane-related artwork, mainly polymer clay statues,
which were well received. Currently, she works with acrylics,
creating Dane portraitures on fabric -- shirts to chairs to
purses – anything wearable.
She also paints
commissioned portraits of Great Danes, examples of which
illustrate this article. These commissioned portraits are done
in acrylic on canvas.
*At the
discretion of the judge, one (1) Award of Merit for each ten
(10) Great Danes entered in the Best of Breed competition may be
awarded. The Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of
Breed, Winners Dog, and Winners Bitch are not eligible for
Awards of Merit. Each Award of Merit Winner will receive framed
Great Dane artwork. |
